Description 

INDICATIONS: Used in conjuction with thiazides or high ceiling diuretics in odema due to cardiac failure, nephrotic syndrome and hepatic disease. In Liddle's syndrome.

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION :
Adults : 100-250mg daily, reducing to alternate days after 1 week; taken in divided doses after breakfast and lunch. When given with other diuretics 50-1OOmg daiiy.
Children : 4 mg/kg/day of triamterene given in 2 div. doses.

ADVERSE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, diarrhoea, skin rash, dry mouth. Hyperkalemia is a serious toxic effect. Triameterence can also reduce glucose tolerance and induce photosensitisation and has been associated with interstial nephritis & renal stones.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hyperkalaemia, anuric renal failure
