  Salbutamol Tablets Strenth : 4 mg.

Unit : 10 X 10 tablets

COMPOSITION: Each uncoated tablet contain

                                    Salbutamol Sulfate BP  4mg                                         

 

DESCRIPTION: Salbutamol is ?2 adrenoreceptor agonists. This drug causes bronchodilatation.

 

M.O.A: Salbutamol causes bronchodilatation by direct stimulation of ?2 adrenergic receptors present in bronchial smooth muscle.

 

USUAL DOSES: Adult: Oral: 2-4mg 3-4 times daily. Max. 32mg/day. SR: 4-8mg twice daily.

Aerosol inhalation: 100-200mcg up to 3-4 times daily. Nebulised soln. inhalation: 2.5 mg upto 4 times daily, may be increased to 5mg if necessary.

Children: Oral: Under 2 years: 0.1 mg/kg 4 times daily; 2-6 years: 1-2 mg 3-4 times daily; 6-12 years: 2 mg.

Aerosol inhalation: 100mcg increased to 200mcg if necessary. Nebulised soln. inhalation: Over 18 months 2.5mg, up to 4 times daily. Under 18 months, clinical efficacy uncertain.

 

INDICATION: Bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis. Prophylaxis in bronchial asthma. Bromhexine is combined where mucus plugging & other problems of expectoration coexist

 

CONTRAINDICATION: Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetics, cardiovascular disease, hyper-thyroidism

 

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Beclomethasone, Theophylline: Enhances respiratory function.

Beta-blockers: Inhibit bronchodilator effect.

Diuretics and Xanthines: Increased risk of hypokalaemia.

Digitalis: Increased risk of digitalis toxicity when salbutamol is given in high doses due to hypokalaemia.

 

ADVERSE EFFECTS: Fine tremor, nervous tension, peripheral vasodilatation, palpitation, tachycardia, rarely muscle cramps, hypokalaemia after high doses, hypersensitivity reactions including paradoxical bronchospasm, urticaria, and angioedema reported; slight pain on intramuscular injection.

 

SPECIAL PRECAUTION: Hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmias, susceptibility to QT-interval prolongation, hypertension, diabetes-specially in I.V. administration to diabetics.

Pregnancy: Most adverse effects associated with salbutamol in pregnancy relate to the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of the very high doses given by intravenous infusion in attempts to delay premature labour.

Lactation: use with caution

 

OVERDOSAGE: Reports of overdosage with salbutamol have generally only described the features that may be expected such as tachycardia, CNS stimulation, tremor, hypokalaemia, and hyperglycaemia.

 

TREATMENT OF SALBUTAMOL OVERDOSAGE: Symptomatic treatment of the adverse effects has proved successful.

 

Storage           :           Store in a well-closed, light-resistant containers in a cool, dry & dark place

 

Packing           :           Elis Salbutamol generally found in blister pack of 10 tablets, 10 blister strip packed in a carton
